Guideposts Timeline
1945:
Guideposts, a monthly digest-inspirational magazine was
founded at the end of WWII by Norman Vincent Peale and his wife,
Ruth Stafford Peale.
1947:
Books originated by Guideposts editors were first published and
distributed to subscribers.
1960s:
A direct mail program was launched. Books were licensed from
trade publishers to offer to Guideposts subscribers.
1977:
Guideposts published its first edition of Daily Guideposts,
an annual devotional, meeting with immediate sales success to the
subscriber list. (Over 600,000 copies per year sold through direct
mail alone.)
2000:
Guideposts acquired Ideals Publications (a publisher that was
founded in 1944). Ideals was a good acquisition for Guideposts with
its popular line of full-color gift books, children’s books and
patriotic books, distributed to the retail trade worldwide.
2001:
Daily Guideposts and Guideposts for the Spirit were
introduced to retail via the Ideals imprint with strong sales
success in all market channels. New editions introduced annually
thereafter.
2001:
Guideposts magazine opened its pages to advertising and was
named one of the top 10 largest monthly magazines in America (based
on paid circulation). 2.6 million subscribers receive direct mail
promotions for Guideposts and its books, resulting in millions of
marketing impressions per year.
2004:
Guideposts magazine enjoyed the highest renewal rate (75%) of
any monthly magazine in America, a figure that holds consistent
through 2005, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
2006:
GuidepostsBooks launches and releases its first trade titles in
September. Titles will be distributed to retail outlets via the
Ideals sales team.
